Being Before Doing

January 5, 2025

Readings: Daniel 6:1-5

When it comes to the New Year, many people are excited because it almost feels like you have a fresh start. “New Year, New You” right? We have social media influencers telling us that if we listen to them then this will be the year that we will be rich and famous. We have commercials telling us that this is the year where we will lose weight and gain muscle. We have our work place saying that this is the year where they will exceed all of their quota and expand. We see friends on social media who are boasting about their 2025 goals and resolutions: this is the year they will get out of debt, this is the year they will eat healthier, this is the year that they will break that addiction, this is the year they will get that degree… The list goes on and on. And while all of those are good things to do and aim for, it is a terrible mistake for us to decide what we want to do before we first decide the kind of person God wants us to be in this New Year.
